Welcome to My Homestead Project Blog! My name is Alicia and I’m a Christian, a wife, mom of 4 boys, a high school teacher, and slightly obsessed with buying small livestock. (Ever heard of Chicken Math? It’s a real thing!)
My wonderful husband started building our home about 3 years ago and we’ve lived in it for two, constantly coming up with new projects, changes, and “wish we would have’s” along the way.
In this post-Covid world, we’ve started to realize just how dependent we were on others to feed, heal, and sustain us. We’ve also realized how rewarding it is to be able to do things on our own. My husband is awfully handy, so he built our house with his own two hands! He also had plenty of help from friends, family, and the gracious employees at the local hardware stores. We’ve also started paying attention to the foods that we eat and how we’re spending our money, and how we’re spending our time. Needless to say, we have been making some major changes.
So why blog about my homestead project adventures? Well…
As I sit here while my 2 month old is napping away, I find my mind racing. What project should I complete next? Should I tackle laundry? Maybe vacuum the floor? Or maybe I should ferment some feed for my chickens for the first time or attempt a new sourdough recipe… How about keeping record of every harebrained idea that I have for all the world to see and start a blog?
I think I’ll go with that one.
Now, I don’t claim to be an expert in anything that I do, because I most certainly am not, but it’s fun to learn and be able to share my many mistakes and occasional successes with others! It’s very rewarding to be able to serve, and telling what has and hasn’t worked for our family with hopes of making life a little easier for others is one way I can do that.
So if you are interested in transitioning to being more self-sustainable, I hope you’ll stay tuned for all of our adventures here at My Homestead Project!
